Buckle up my friends, back to back ports which means tons of pictures and sharing of interesting stuff.
What is so important about this region? WINE WINE WINE!!!
Wine trade actually began with England in the 14th century. Bordeaux is the French region of Aquitaine stretching south along the west coast. The city is by the Garonne river and is its most important for trade, which helped it grow in wealth and prestige. Wine hit its peak in the 17th and 18th century. Presently tourism is the major contributor to the city. It is the jumping off point to the wineries and chateaux. During WWII the city lacked in geographic importance and so it was spared being bombed. Bordeaux is a world UNESCO world heritage site, preserved architecture. The Bordeaux region has 1/4 million acres of grape cultivation. Its a very walkable city, lots of bars, restaurants and delicious pastry shops, with the canele the most famous.
Wish we were there. Would haved loved to see the architecture, try the wines and of course the pastries !!
