We arrived in the port city of Cadiz, the oldest city in Spain. The 2nd largest port city, over 300 cruise ships dock here. 1/2 million tourists pass thru Cadiz. It is 1 hr 45mins to Seville, a very long day commuting. 112 thousand people live here, but unemployment is very high, 27% but much worse for the young, 45%. This is a city of the old, young people leave to find better jobs.
I know this is a shitty pic but taken from bus, best I can do. Cadiz is a peninsula bay on one side, ocean on other.
City is oldest in Spain, dating back to 1100 BC by the Phoenicians. An important trade route in gold, silver, salt and tobacco. Tobacco 2nd largest producer in Spain early 1900’s. 1,000 women worked in the factories and were grossly underpaid. Women had small hands so they can roll cigarettes. How times have changed!
