My Last Thoughts on Lisbon

Again one day not enough time here. 11million people in Portugal, 3 million in Lisbon and surrounding area. 1755 an earthquake and sunamee which buried the city. Many of the buildings and infrastructure is from the late 1700’s.

Apartments and homes are very expensive in the heart of the city. The ride to Sintra is about 1/2 hour out of Lisbon, and on the train rise home you see tons of high rise apartments allover. You need at least 35% down payment to buy, so many people just rent. Sounds familiar.

In 2008 to 2011 like the rest of Europe and the US, Portugal took a major economical hit, 30% unemployment. There is 8% unemployment today.

Lisbon is really a beautiful city, but unfortunately it had its homeless population and graffiti all over, buildings, train stations. Its not dirty but compared to Bordeaux and Bilbao which is pristine clean Lisbon is more lived in. That’s a kind way to say a bit disheveled.

Came back to ship, another meal excellent Pan Asian, and an announcement comes in. Medical Emergency return to port outside Lisbon. This is what happens, meaning tomorrow when we arrive in the port city of Cadiz going to be later. Again thinking on your feet! Reconfigure never can say what can happen on vacation.
