Moshe Nahon Synagogue

We were taken to this active synagogue in the Medina of Tangiers. At one time there were 17 Synagogues in the city. Sephardic jews thrown out of Spain came to Morocco to reset their lives. They first moved into the old city behind the walls but eventually as they gained more wealth moved out to better living quarters. They started selling salt but moved onto gold. Much more lucrative.

I am going to post several pics from inside the synagogue, this is truly remarkable and our guide knew to take us here. I am sure we would have never found it on our own. Tje streets are narrow with directions in Arabic and very confusing.

Look at the details of the temple. Inlaid tiles, silver allover the place.

This is an.orthodox congregation so women sit upstairs,
