Just when I thought we were staying in Italy, nope back in France. Where the heck is this island? Close to Sardinia, Genoa and a Mediterranean destination. Who was born here? Napoleon Bonaparte, that’s right his home city. Marble statues in his likeness, his home a museum. Capital city is Ajaccio where most cruise ships dock and the city sprawls up from the sea into the mountains.
Inhabited since the Romans and into the Middle ages. Under Italian rule out of Genoa and finally the French took ownership. Ajaccio comes from the Roman Adjacium, place of rest. Important port for fishing and deep enough for cruise ships to come.
Beautiful beaches, very mountainous and an outdoor lover paradise.
