David was placed in the Palazzo Vecchio in Plaza Singoria. In 1873 the state brought David inside to the Academic to safe guard it. A copy was made and placed outside.
September 2004 it celebrated 500 years. In 2003 to 2004 it was last cleaned and it is inspected periodically for damage, fissures in marble.
