This Romanesque, Byzantine synagogue was built in the 19th century. It has beautiful stain glass windows and unfortunately it was closed today. But Reid and I found it. During WWII it was desecrated and used as a prison for Jews of the area as they awaited transfer to concentration camps. You can see in French the names of Jewish families who lived in the city and region who lost their lives. So the city might have been saved but not the synagogue. Typical!
So very interesting ! We love to find any Judaic evidence whereever we go !!
